Fire Chief Jeff Smith

Jeff Smith began his fire service career in 2005, initially starting as a volunteer firefighter with Grays Harbor Fire District 2, before transferring to the Montesano Fire Department. He has deep roots in our community, first starting with then Grays Harbor Fire District 5 as a firefighter/paramedic in December of 2018, serving until March of 2020 when he was hired as a Fire Captain for the Montesano Fire Department, quickly promoting to Senion Captain. He served with MFD until his return to East Grays Harbor Fire in August of 2024, when he was hired as the Assisstant Fire Chief.
Chief Smith also serves in the Operations Section with the Region 3 Incident Management Team, and has a wealth of incident command experience. Smith has lead in a number of high profile incidents, such as the Montesano Health and Rehab Fire, where he assisted coordinated evacuation of over 80 displaced residents while also managing fire suppression efforts.
Chief Smith worked under Fire Chief Kenny Ward, until Ward retired in 2025. Chief Smith has been instrumental in implementing various safety and training programs.
